Opening a figure to see what makes it up
Tap or click any total on a report, tile or chart to see the charges or payments behind it, down to a single record.
A total is only useful if you can see where it came from. In SocietyLedger, every amount and count on a report, on your dashboard and on Home can be opened to the records that add up to it.
How it works
Select a figure, such as Money received, Still owed, Overdue charges, a bar in a chart, a slice of a pie, or a category. A list opens with the charges or payments behind it. At the top is a total, and that total is the figure you selected. If it were not, that would be a fault to report.
From the list you can go one step further: select a charge to open it, or a member to see their charges or their ledger. That is the last level.
- On the web, a figure you can open has a dotted underline.
- In the app, it has a small arrow, and the screen reader says "Opens the list".
- A figure of nothing has nothing behind it, so it is shown plainly.
What you can open
| Figure | What opens |
|---|---|
| Money received, a payment method, a month's bar, a category's income | The payments in it |
| Charged, Paid so far, Still owed, a category, a month's collection rate | The charges raised in it, with what was paid on each |
| Total still owed, an aging band, a member's balance | The charges still owed |
| Overdue charges | The charges past their due date |
| Total members | The members list |
Every list is for the same period and filters as the figure, and uses the same rules as the reports: cancelled and forgiven charges are not counted, and a member who was disabled is not chased.
Why it matters
When a number looks wrong, you can open it, find the charge or payment that explains it, and fix that, instead of guessing.
